Elgato Game Capture 4K X — Supported Resolutions and Frame Rates
This is a list of supported passthrough and capture resolutions. For each input resolution, the supported capture resolution is shown as supported by 4K X.
These resolutions and frame rates do not consider software and may change depending on the software 4K X is used.

Note: USB 3.2 Gen 1, USB 3.1 Gen 1, and USB 3.0 all offer speeds up to 5Gbps. This ensures they can smoothly support 4K video.
Detailed Capture Codec Specifications
Below is a detailed list of resolutions and frame rates that can be captured in a specific codec. The codec, resolution, and frame rate availability change depending on the USB port type that 4K X is connected to.

Display Stream Compression (DSC)
4K X does not support the capture of video signals utilizing Display Stream Compression (DSC).
Early HDMI 2.1 monitors used DSC for higher resolution and frame rate capability. For example, monitors may use DSC to achieve 4K144Hz, while 4K120Hz does not use DSC.
If the passthrough is to a TV or monitor is working, but the captured video is black, DSC may be active.
Please try a lower resolution and/or frame rate.
Ultra Wide Support
With Firmware 1.7.13, Ultra Wide Support was added. The following resolutions are now supported.
- 3440×1440
- 2560×1080
HDR (High Dynamic Range)
4K X supports passthrough of HDR10 video and capture of 10-bit HDR video.
Windows:
An NVIDIA 10 series or later GPU is required for HDR 10 Bit recording in Windows 10/11, when using Elgato 4K Capture Utility. That recording will be in the HEVC format.
macOS:
HDR capture is not available for macOS, as macOS does not support the required video codec. HDR passthrough via HDMI is available. HDR video will be converted to SDR by 4K X before going to your Mac.
